Michigan State makes Sports Illustrated regional NCAA tournament cover … – Detroit Free Press

Another day, more March Madness love for Michigan State.

The Spartans get one of Sports Illustrated’s six regional covers this week, along with Arizona, Florida, Syracuse, Wichita State and the Connecticut women.

Seems like everyone’s picking Spartans

The MSU cover features sophomore guard Gary Harris, surrounded by a bunch of Izzone types and — if you look way in the back, in the right corner — Mateen Cleaves.

The headline says: “Can Gary Harris and Michigan State Summon That Mateen Cleaves Magic?”

Apparently not, because while the Spartans get more love on the inside, it’s not unconditional love.

SI has them making the Final Four, like pretty much everyone else, but not winning the title — they lose in the semis to Florida, the eventual champ over Wichita State.

Obama: MSU to Final Four

Even the Commander in Chief is putting No. 4 seed Michigan State in his Final Four.

ESPN.com revealed President Barack Obama’s Final Four picks Tuesday evening, selecting No. 4 Louisville, No. 1 Florida and No. 1 Arizona will join the Spartans in this year’s Final Four.

“Barack-etology” will air at 11 p.m. Tuesday evening on SportsCenter, revealing Obama’s bracket up until the Final Four, before revealing his championship prediction at 9 a.m. Wednesday on SportsCenter.

Obama has picked just one national champion correctly – North Carolina, which beat MSU in 2009. He picked Indiana to beat Louisville in last year’s NCAA tournament final.
